What Are Your Thoughts

On occasion we will get a request or question asking if the disposable diaper wraps come in any other color.

I have been asking the same thing of our manufacturers over the years but as you can see, all disposable diapers for the dogs have been available in "white" only.

Many pet owners don't really mind as long as the diaper wraps do the job they were intended to do. However, we do provide the cloth cover wraps for those who want to cover them up when they take their dog on an outing.

But for those who have dark colored dogs, say black or brown, if we could get them in a dark color (and we may not have a choice as to what that color may be) do you think the market and pet owners would support this possibility? Please give us your opinion.

You may also want to pick up some dog supplements — essential fatty acids, glucosamine with chondroitin sulfate, and probiotics. You can find most of these supplies for affordable prices at stores like Walmart. Just be sure to grab a

Much inspiration comes when seeing the first signs of Spring. Robins feasting in the yard and fussing at one another. The buds giving way to new leaves on the trees and beautifully sculptured flowers peer up from all around places. Bees beginning to pollinate with the fresh smell of green grass, fruit trees and planted gardens. As the snow melts, the sound of running creek beds rise and water the lands. Yes Spring is one of my favorite times of the year! But...

Spring means more than just pleasant smells and pretty flowers. Along comes the heavy downpours and flood waters, hail storms and tornadoes. I am reminded by my GSP Emma that the forecast is about to change as she trembles and hunts for a safe hideout until the thunderstorms pass us by. She can sense the really bad ones coming and has been known to lay on top of me; to shelter my body just in case. Let's not forget their deep feelings but praise them for their sensitivities! What's Spring like in your area?

Winter weather can be as dangerous for our small dogs as it can be for us. Ensure that your dog stays safe and healthy.

Your first stop to get ready for colder weather with your dog should be the vet’s office. They can make sure your petite four-legged buddy hasn’t acquired any new health issues, or can help you plan for cold weather effects on current health conditions.

Frostbite and hypothermia

are real concerns for dogs when outside for too long. Watch for signs of shivering, weak pulse, shallow breathing, or lethargy. Signs of frostbite include discolored skin, blisters, or swelling. If you notice any of these signs or any other issues, get your dog inside right away and get treatment if symptoms worsen.

Wipe your dog down or wash off his legs after walks. Chemicals, salt, and de-icers can stick to your dog’s paws, legs, and belly and can be ingested if your dog decides to clean himself.

It's also not a good idea to leave your dog in the car when you go out. The car’s temperature can drop rapidly in cold weather and pose a danger to your dog, just as the car can overheat in the summer.

At home

, give your dog some comfortable bed/ blanket options to be able to regulate himself when warm or cold. They fluctuate between being warm and cool just like we do. If you use a pet sitter while you’re on vacation, be sure to instruct them accordingly.

During the winter season, try to limit bathing your dog. Washing can increase dryness and itchiness on your dog’s skin and can turn into irritating rashes. When you do wash them, use a moisturizing wash and rinse and make sure your dog is completely dry before venturing outside.

Your dog’s paws

will be more prone to cracking and bleeding during cold weather. Rubbing a paw protectant such as petroleum jelly on paw pads before and after walks can cut back on irritation.

Keep your home humidified to make up for the colder, drier air of winter. This could make your dog more comfortable and lessen dry skin problems.

Preparing for the cold weather and taking steps to keep your dog safe, will ensure a healthy, happy winter season for your best friend.

The Gift of Acupuncture

           The Gift of Acupuncture...

After waking up one morning from a completely normal active dog to one that was totally paralyzed in both hind quarters from no apparent reason, was a total shock. X-rays didn't reveal anything conclusive but shell shock with back surgery from 3-5k and possibly reaching up to 10k+ with no guarantees was horrible news. Plus the fact that she was 13 yrs old and may never walk again.

Heartbroken, we took our little Suki home and began to look for alternative answers. After just one treatment of acupuncture and electrical stimulation, we have hope! Sophie is able to walk again (almost immediately) can manage a small step and is still weak in her right hind foot but on her good days she prances and has very high spirits. Our biggest problem is getting her to slow down so she doesn't trip herself while working on her therapy exercises.

Don't ever give up!

Our beautiful Red Heeler, also known as Australian Cattle Dog. They are bred for their working ability. There are two colors of Heelers, Red and Blue. They work behind the herd to keep it moving forward. They are incredibly agile and fast and very good at their job. They may nip the heels of the cow if need be, hence the Heeler part of her name. I will tell you that Dakota is a city girl and has never worked with cows. Really, the only herding she has done is to push me to the pantry where her food is kept. Yes, my heel has been nipped a couple of times. Patience is not a virtue when it comes to food.

Dakota enjoys her daily walks, playing ball, and being at home where she can protect her family. She is very devoted and a great girl.

           Dakota's Homecoming

When Dakota was brought home, she was familiarized with her new surroundings. She did the usual stiffing and smelling and gladly went to into her new yard. My husband, working from home, watched her for a moment or two and went to his office. Shortly after he sat down he heard Dakota bark. She was at the back door. Now, mind you this is not the door she went out to get to the yard. My husband let her in, took her back to the yard, looked for and open gate, a hole that she might have dug, but nothing. Puzzled he went back into the house and watched Dakota from the window. It did not take long for him to see how she had escaped.

She jumped, put her front paws on the top railing of the 5' wooden fence and began to climb and pull herself up until she had all four paws on the railing and jumped. She came to the same door.

Dakota did not know what was on the other side of the fence, so she had no idea where or what she was jumping into. All she knew was she wanted to be in the house with her new family.

As a multiple pet owner, each are my closest and most loyal members of our family. I'm sure most, if not all, of my followers feel the same way. We don't want, need, or approve of what is being added in our Pet Food or Human Food chain and it's past time for somethings to change! It is absolutely gut wrenching to have to say "farewell" to any of our beloved pets for whatever the reason.

           LET'S PAWS AND TALK!
